Mother Earth – Our Shared Home 🌍💚
To me, Earth has always felt like the most selfless mother—quietly giving, enduring, and sustaining life without ever asking for anything in return. She feeds us, shelters us, and even as we pollute and exploit her, she continues to hold us up with generosity. Sometimes I wonder—how much longer can she take our negligence?
Earth Day, celebrated every year on April 22nd, is not just a date for me—it’s a reminder. A reminder that this is our only home, and protecting it is not a choice but a responsibility. The words of Robert Swan often echo in my mind: “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
At St. Britto’s, Earth Day is alive in the laughter, creativity, and actions of our students. From planting saplings and making nests for birds, to designing posters and joining clean-up drives, they learn that small steps create big change. I’ve seen their excitement while composting, their pride when carrying cloth bags, and their determination when speaking about pollution and plastic. These little seeds of awareness give me hope.
I believe nature always speaks to us—through the rustle of trees, the call of birds, or even disasters when balance is lost. She keeps reminding us that harmony must be restored. And it begins with everyday choices: walking instead of driving, reducing plastics, planting trees, saving water, reusing and recycling. Simple acts, but powerful when done together.
Rachel Carson said, “Those who contemplate the beauty of the Earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.” For me, that strength is in the children I see growing into responsible citizens, carrying the dream of a greener tomorrow. Real Earth Day is not just about celebration—it is a lifelong promise to love and protect the only home we have.
